2013 Chevrolet Corvette C7

The future for America’s sports car sees the Corvette becoming lighter, slicker and moderately more compact, powered by an equally powerful but smaller V-8. This has been determined by the need to improve efficiency according to government mandate, yet responding to consumers’ desires for even greater performance. A list of priorities from the average Corvette owner puts perform­ance at the top, with fuel efficiency somewhere just above the desire for rear seats and a better tow rating.
Had GM not filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the next Corvette, the C7, was going to be a mid-engine design. That plan, however, has been put on hold, perhaps until the C8. In the meantime, the new C7 will retain a front-engine design, but the car will lose weight while its engine will become more effective at extracting energy from fuel. That doesn’t mean Chevy’s small-block is going to get overhead cams, but it will become slightly more sophisticated, likely with the addition of direct injection. That technology, along with a bump in compression, is good for additional power. Most likely the C7 will sport a 5.5-liter V-8 with the same power output as the current 6.2-liter LS3 (a hint at this displacement comes from the GT2 race car).
The new Vette’s performance will be aided further by a diet of composites, aluminum and magnesium, dropping the car’s curb weight to about 3000 lb. The 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition should give a good indication of what Chevy is capable of with the Corvette. Improved aerodynamics will also help the Vette punch a smaller hole through the air, aiding acceleration, top speed and mpg. Speaking of the Z06, there’s a good chance the next generation will be supercharged like the current ZR1. And the Performance Traction Management system soon will no longer be exclusive to the ZR1.
Most likely, the front-engine C7 will sport a 5.5-liter V-8 with the same power output as the Corvette’s current engine.

Audi has donated a very special R8 sports car for this year's star-studded White Tie and Tiara Ball, which has always been held at the home of Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish. The event took place on June 23, Thursday. Jaguar Land Rover contracts worth $3.3 billion awarded to 40-plus British companies

Since Mercedes-Benz’s parent company Daimler has no official plans to introduce an ‘uber’ luxurious coupe for its fading Maybach brand, the company gave its blessing to German-based engineering firm Xenatec to create a two-door version of the Maybach 57S.Said to be developed in close cooperation with Maybach, the 57S Coupe special will be built in a strictly limited number of 100 examples each priced from a hefty €650,000 or about US$805,000 at today’s exchange rates.

The transformation from a limo to a coupe includes redesigned A-, B- and C-columns with the second column moved back by 200mm, a more raked roofline, restyled front and rear ends, and a slightly wider body while retaining the same 3.39m-long wheelbase as the sedan model.

The extended wheel arches of the car are filled in with newly designed 20- or optionally 21-inch alloy wheels.

The four-seater 57S Coupe keeps the standard Maybach S’ 6.0-liter bi-turbocharged V12 with 612HP (for the record, in the latest facelift output has been upped to 630HP), so expect about 5.0 seconds for the standard 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint and a top speed somewhere around 275km/h or 171mph.

Aston Martin Rapide

Aston Martin has joined the band wagon of automobile manufacturers using the digital movie medium for promoting their products. For the first time they are going to release some promotional videos. The car model that would be shown in these videos is the Rapide which is a four door coupe. The film is based on the theme that a mysterious person has employed some agents to deliver a precious package without opening it. The film is all about following the movement of these agents and has been shot in Lisbon, Portugal.

The first part of the video has been released and available while the second and third would be released soon.

Infiniti’s answer to the Bmw Z4 or Audi TT to debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show

Infiniti, in an effort to improve its reputations in the U.K. – is planning to launch a new sports car at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show which is expected to give tough competition to the likes of Audi TT or the BMW Z4. The company is collaborating with Lotus hoping to get an enthusiast appeal. According to an Auto Express report this two-seater car will be indexed under the next-generation G-Series Coupé.
The car is likely to get the conventional front engine, rear wheel drive layout while the Norfolk based car maker Lotus will chip in by tuning up the chassis. This new sports car will be a whole lot aggressive in appearance. On the top of it, Infiniti is also developing two eco-friendly models.

Peugeot aims to beef up profits, decides to produce upscale niche vehicles

Peugeot wants their profits up and to achieve that, the carmaker decides to produce higher end models using their volume platforms. One good example of putting this idea to work is the aggressive looking 2+ coupe, the RCZ.
The RCZ will be deriving its DNA from the midsize platform of Peugeot-Citroen utilized for the Citroen C4 and the compact hatchback 308. The RCZ is being manufactured by Austria based Magna Steyr which is part of an international company partly responsible for the engineering of the RCZ.
Magna Steyr was awarded the contract for the production of the RCZ over makers like Valmet of Finland, Heuliez of France, Pinifarina of Italy, and Germany’s Karmann. Peugeot and its sibling brand Citroen will be depending on this move of producing upscale niche cas.
Near-premium car production somehow helps carmakers jack up their revenues with the higher margin for profits with these upscale models using the mass market backbone. Citroen is warming its operations up to introduce a whole DS range while Peugeot will focus on giving the market limited edition vehicles.
The RCZ will be the first of a series of limited edition models. This model will be heating dealerships by 2011. A third car is also on the drawing boards for production on 2012 but the car manufacturer opted not to release details about it yet.
