2013 Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster Concept

Volkswagen, one of the biggest auto makers in the world, and one of the few whose sales haven’t been affected by the failing economy has been promising us a sports car since 2003. They finally unveiled a concept at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show.The 2013 Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster will be a fairly-priced, good (not great) performance vehicle. It’s likely to be powered by a 2.0-liter engine (similar to the one used in the Jetta or inAudi’s A3), or a 2.0-liter turbo four (optional). The steering wheel will probably be the same, though: an automatic 7-speed automatic DSG with a manual mode. To shift the gears manually, the driver can use the two shifters mounted on the wheel, although the automatic shifting saves up on the fuel consumption.Speaking of the fuel consumption, according to Volkswagen, their very first sports car will go about 35-50 mpg, with CO2 emissions of only 113. It will go from 0 to 60 in 6.2 seconds, which is pretty good for the intended pricing.The 2013 Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster features a navigation system, electro-hydraulic power steering, a stop/start system for the engine, antilock 4-wheel disk brakes and a 4-wheel independent transmission. Volkswagen says that the BlueSport Roadster’s top will be the lightest in its class.It is possible that such a vehicle becomes available for purchase sometime this year, but Volkswagen hasn’t officially stated anything about a release date. The price will be between $23,000 and $26,000.

2013 Ford Focus ST

2012 Porsche Cayman S Black Edition

Following the recently announced 911 and Boxster S Black Editions, Porsche introduces a new, limited edition Cayman S arriving later this summer. The 2012 Cayman S Black Edition comes in solid black and features a monochrome treatment with a black body and black-painted 19-inch Boxster Spyder design wheels. Normally contrasting trim pieces from the Cayman S are also painted for a uniform look. The side air intake grilles are painted black, as are the twin exhaust tailpipes and the model designation on the rear deck lid. Limited to only 500 units, the Cayman S Black Edition will be tagged at a cool $67,500 USD. Additional specs follow below.The monochromatic theme continues to the interior where black is the only available color, with aluminum and stainless steel used as accents. The brushed stainless steel door-entry guards feature Black Edition lettering, and the standard SportDesign steering wheel features twin aluminum-look spokes with a rim of smooth-finish black leather. Also painted black are the trim strips on the dashboard and around the six-speed manual shift lever or the gear selector for the optional Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed double clutch transmission, while the instrument dials are black instead of the usual white. Two final touches are the Porsche crest embossed on the headrests and a limited-edition badge on the glove compartment.Like the other Black Editions, the Cayman S Black Edition combines Porsche’s popular option packages to deliver additional value to customers. With PDK, the Cayman S Black Edition will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package and reaches a top track speed of 172 mph while achieving EPA estimated fuel economy of 20 city and 29 highway (19/26 when equipped with six-speed manual and top track speed of 173 mph), the same as the Cayman S. In addition to reducing the 0–60 acceleration times by two-tenths, the optional Sport Chrono Package with PDK provides a launch control function and more aggressive Sport and Sport Plus shift strategies.

2015 Mini Van

If you’re a fan of the Mini Cooper but need something in XXL, this could be the car for you. This illustration portrays a van variant of the Mini—Mini Van, get it?—which sources claim could go on sale by 2015 (if not sooner). Having finally delivered on its promise of a smaller Mini, courtesy of the 2-passenger Coupe and Roadster, it appears the brand is moving back to a “bigger is better” mantra.The extended Clubman model and Countryman crossover have already nudged Mini to previously uncharted dimensions. The Mini Van appears to share the overall proportions of the Countryman, minus that model’s slightly fussy front end and fender flares. It’s also unlikely Mini would fit the Countryman’s (optional) all-wheel-drive system to the Van, though it’s not completely out of the question.The current 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, in normally aspirated and turbocharged forms, is guaranteed to find its way into the engine bay. A choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions is also a safe bet. The more upright body should provide ample head room and a significant boost to cargo capacity. Mini might opt to fit sliding rear seats, like those found in the Countryman, for added utility.With the Coupe and Roadster just coming to market, Mini will likely wait until 2013 before offering any official hints as to the next model to join the lineup.

2012 Toyota Yaris Hybrid

Toyota is about to add another model to its hybrid line-up and, no surprise here, it’s based on the company’s best sold model on the European market: the Yaris. The new Yaris Hybrid is set to make its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March with sales in Europe beginning shortly thereafter.

The new Yaris Hybrid will be powered by the first downsizing of Toyota’s HSD powertrain that combines a new 1.5 liter petrol engine with a lighter, more compact electric motor, transaxle, inverter, and battery pack. This new system is about 20% lighter than that of the engine found in the Auris Hybrid and will deliver a total of 100 HP. It will be mated to a standard automatic transmission.

Next to having a hybrid powertrain, the new Yaris Hybrid will also be offered with an exclusive, aerodynamically efficient exterior design. This means it will have a new, more assertive Under Priority trapezoid opening frontal design element with the Keen Look design implemented on the front lamps.
