Two chromed Audi R8 Spyder cars auctioned at the Elton John Aids Foundation

Audi has donated a very special R8 sports car for this year's star-studded White Tie and Tiara Ball, which has always been held at the home of Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish. The event took place on June 23, Thursday. A dazzling and one-of-a-kind mirror-like chromed finish has been applied to the 194mph open-top sports vehicle that has been especially made for the occasion in order to attract the highest potential bids in the auction that will fund the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF) annually.

The fundraising ball is a "golden ticket event" that is both glamorous as well as highly effective in terms of raising funds, Director Jeremy Hicks of Audi UK commented. He further stated that the Audi is proud to support the event for the ninth year with the donation, which is "arguably" the company's most "fittingly glamorous model." The R8 Spyder boasts of a fully-automatic lightweight fabric hood that brings wind-in-hair intensity to driving experience brought about by the lightweight aluminum quattro-equipped super car. The donated vehicle model can top 194mph. It can also blast to 62mph from rest in just 4.1 seconds. In addition, the vehicle has exceptional ten-cylinder, 525PS petrol engine with manual transmission. It is normally pegged at £117,710 OTR.
"A striking ‘chrome-finish’ version of the 194mph soft-top sports car was initially donated, and was sold for £250,000, but interest was so strong that a second example was provided by Audi UK. This too attracted a high value bid, and was then generously submitted a second time for auction, taking the final total raised by the two cars to £620,000." said the press release.
