2013 Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe compact four-wheelers

Honda has come up with their latest- Accord belonging to the ninth generation. The car is available in coupé and sedan variations. They have released officially the pictures of these mid-sized cars.

The newest Accord sedan eschews the look and details of its previous model. The coupé’s body style is not a surprise as the automaker had shown a similar version of this model at Detroit’s Auto Show earlier this year.

Both the cars’ looks are believed to be “most sculpted”. The cars give the impression of being compact. They are visibly cut down in length. However there has been no compromise made in terms of cargo and passenger space.

This Japanese automaker had announced previously that the upcoming models will have certain originalities. It introduces certain warning systems pertaining to forward collision and lane departure. It also includes regular rearview camera used for parking and also includes detection of blind spot.

Way back, in the month of January, during the revelation of the concept of the coupé, Honda declared that the forthcoming Accord models will be less heavy than all its previous models. It evidently has a shorter size and is packed resulting in better driving and management dynamics.

Accord introduces three revised engines. It has a hybrid powertrain that links a gasoline unit comprising of 4 cylinders (2.0 liter) to an electric CVT and a 6 kWh battery (lithium-ion) that feeds on 161 hp.

The two-motor hybrid mechanism moves through a gasoline-electric, a direct-drive and an all-electric mode.

The first uses a 2.4 liter DI engine that churns out 181 hp with a peak torque of 177 lb-ft and the second a V6 i-VTEC (3.5 liter) with better thrust. These are paired with manual and automatic transmission respectively.

In the third mode, Accord plug-in Hybrid will be able to cover 10-15 miles at a speed of 62 mph. The battery can be recharged in an estimated time of 1.5hrs to 4hrs using a 240V or a 120V charger respectively.

2012 Nissan GTR P600

Switzer Performance has unveiled quite a few tuning packages for the Nissan GT-R, and it seems they won’t be slowing down anytime soon now that Nissan has inadvertently announced another generation for the sports car. Their latest package is called the P600 GTR PKG and delivers an astounding 600 HP, up from the standard 545 HP.

In order to obtain this amazing power increase, the tuner has added Switzer-specific high-flow filters, Switzer’s own high-performance ECU software, and the free-flowing SS90 exhaust that not only helps increase power, but also improves the 3.8L twin-turbo V6 engine’s sound. This allows the P600 GTR to get from 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds (one second faster than the standard model) and make it from 60-130 mph 2.5 seconds quicker than the stock car.

Switzer’s main focus was the power increase, so no major aesthetic changes were made to the vehicle. The only change they made was the addition of a new set of new Switzer Signature series lightweight forged aluminum wheels with Michelin Pilot Supersports tires.

The absence of exterior and interior modifications doesn’t affect the price, however. The P600 PKG by Switzer will set Nissan GTR owners back $12,990.

2014 Cadillac ATS Coupe

The 2012 Detroit Auto Show saw the introduction of the 2013 Cadillac ATS sedan, the American luxury brand’s latest rival to popular German models like the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. We’ve been down this road before, with previous compact Caddy sedans proving woefully uncompetitive (think Cimarron) or bland and forgettable (the Catera). Based on its handsome exterior and impressive spec sheet, the ATS appears to be a quantum leap forward from past efforts, as Cadillac finally takes a serious fight to the compact sedan competition.

To flesh out the ATS lineup, Cadillac will soon introduce a coupe model, with sales expected to begin sometime in early 2014. These artist illustrations provide a sneak peek at the upcoming ATS Coupe, which employs the same rear-wheel-drive Alpha platform as the sedan. From these images, the transformation from four to two doors has been done extremely well. The sweptback headlamps, prominent grille, and side character line – running along the sides and through the door handles – look especially handsome on the ATS Coupe.

Expect the same range of engines offered in the ATS sedan to migrate to the coupe. These include the 200-bhp base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a 270-bhp 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, and 318-bhp direct-injected 3.6-liter V-6. While the V-6 is expected to be the performance model, Cadillac reps have hinted the turbo 4-cylinder could offer the ideal blend of power and handling balance, thanks to the engine’s lighter weight. Fuel economy should also be better – in the Buick Regal GS sedan, this same engine returns 20/32 mpg city/highway.

All-wheel drive will be optional with the turbo 4-cylinder or V-6; the base model is rear drive only. Adding all-wheel drive to the turbocharged engine also means having to opt for the auto gearbox. Confused yet?

According to our sources, Cadillac considered adding a station wagon and convertible to the ATS range. However, for the time being, those plans appear to have been put on ice. Luckily, the ATS Coupe is still on track, and we expect the production version to appear later this year at the L.A. Auto Show, or early next year in Detroit. An ATS-V Coupe powered by a turbocharged V-6, delivering somewhere in the region of 400 to 450 bhp, is also likely and could be revealed at the same time.

The BMW i8 Concept has officially lost its lid, as the Bavarian automaker’s fuel mileage masterpiece is being shown for the first time in convertible format. Intended to display BMW’s prowess when it comes to mpg-related technology, the i8 will be the range-topping model of the upcoming “i” brand. Additional vehicles in the range will include the i3, an electric-powered city car.

We’ve already spotted the i8 Coupe undergoing testing, wearing only minimal camouflage and looking almost identical to the concept version. BMW appears to be serious about expanding the range, even if the i8 will remain a niche product due a starting price that’s expected to be well over $100,000. A convertible version, if one does come to market, is likely to carry an even higher price tag.The BMW i8 Concept Spyder has the same dramatic and flowing lines as the coupe, complete with a rollover bar that extends elegantly backwards to serve as the rear spoiler. As we’ve already noted with the i8 Coupe prototype recently spotted by our spy photographers, the doors swing upwards and forward, ensuring a touch of drama any time you exit or enter the vehicle. It’s a nice touch, and it’s good to see it being used in the drop-top variant.Inside the Spyder’s 2-passenger cabin is a “layered” design with 3-dimensional displays, along with an exotic-looking mix of carbon fiber, leather and plastic surfaces. One notable piece missing from the design puzzle is the car’s top, or more to the point, whether it’s a removable hardtop or folds backwards somehow. There doesn’t appear to be an excess of stowage space in the i8 Spyder’s lean silhouette, so a folding top seems unlikely at this point.Beneath the bodywork is the same all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid powertrain found in the i8 Coupe. This includes a 131-hp electric motor linked to the front wheels, along with a 223-bhp turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine coupled to the rears. The combined output of 354 hp is enough to motivate the i8 Convertible from 0 to 62 mph in 5.0 seconds, according to BMW. Top speed is reportedly 155 mph.

The battery pack is located in the central tunnel, to ensure a 50:50 weight balance, and power can be routed to the front, rear, or all four wheels at the same time.Like the i8 Coupe, when the lithium-ion batteries are fully charged the i8 Spyder has a pure electric driving range of approximately 19 miles. BMW states that the i8 can be recharged in less than two hours using a standard household outlet. A high-voltage alternator coupled to the gasoline engine provides extra power, or additional driving range, when needed.

Look for the BMW i8 Coupe to arrive sometime in 2014, with the Spyder variant to follow shortly thereafter.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 4-door

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is going domestic. How else can you explain rumors that Mercedes could transform its gullwing supercar into a quasi-sedan, complete with two tiny rear-hinged doors to permit access to a back seat. In its current guise, the SLS AMG Coupe and Roadster are strict 2-passenger machines—great for a blast on the Autobahn, though perhaps not so handy during the school run. According to our sources, that fact has inspired someone at Mercedes HQ to pay a visit to the German patent office. The result, after a little re-engineering, could be a car that looks very similar to these illustrations.The market for sedans with bold coupe-like designs has rapidly expanded these past few years, with the Audi A7, Mercedes CLS and upcoming CLC, and BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe all joining the party. Even more mainstream automakers like Hyundai, with its swoopy Sonata sedan, have gotten in on the action. But transforming a 2-door sports car into a sedan is fairly new territory. A similarly small rear-hinged door was offered on the discontinued Saturn SC2 Coupe (though only on one side of the car). Regardless, we doubt Mercedes would appreciate the comparison. At least the gullwing doors will remain. The stretched wheelbase—needed to carve out room for a rear seat—should provide a softer and smoother ride, though we’re hoping overall handling prowess doesn’t suffer. Those extra doors, and the bracing needed to keep the chassis rock-solid, will also likely bump the curb weight, which presently stands at 3575 lb. for the SLS AMG Coupe. Then again, Mercedes could raise the power output of the 563-bhp 6.2-liter V-8 to counter any additional pounds.

2013 Mini Countryman John Cooper Works unveiled

John Cooper Works Countryman has been revealed by MINI before it was to make its debut at the Motor Show to be held in Geneva in March 2012. The model has an aggressive look which is featured with an aerodynamic kit, sports suspension which has been lowered and alloy wheels of 18 inch. This is however, connected with ALL4 all wheel drive system which allows the new model to speed up from 0 to 100 km/hr in 7 seconds and also enables it to gain the top speed of 225 km/hr or 223 km/hr with its optional six speed automatic.So far as its efficiency is concerned, the owners can expect an average of 7.2 L/100 km and an emission of 167 g/km CO2. The figures degrade with the automatic to an amount of 8.0 l/100km and 187 g/km. Other details are still to be announced. 2012 Maruti Ertiga MPV

It was in the Auto Expo 2012, that Maruti Suzuki has disappointed us by just unveiling the MPV Maruti Ertiga and announcing that it will be launched in April, which was otherwise sure of its launch. Earlier, it was known that the car will be in the showrooms by the end of April but it was not confirmed whether the new model will be exported to the other markets or not. It is not much of surprise that this product will be exported to Indonesia at present, which is the second market after India. So keeping in mind the sales point of view, the market of Indonesia is extremely potent and has enough absorptive capacity for such models.

Only a petrol version will be launched in the new market. The other two MPVs that are popular in Indonesia are Daihatsu Xenia and Toyota Avanza. So in order to capture the market and popularity, the Ertiga has to prove itself. However, the plus point is that this new model is associated with some extra features in the interiors. So far as the overall look of the car is concerned, it is compact and has much better fit and finish as compared to earlier Maruti models. 2013 Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster Concept

Volkswagen, one of the biggest auto makers in the world, and one of the few whose sales haven’t been affected by the failing economy has been promising us a sports car since 2003. They finally unveiled a concept at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show.The 2013 Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster will be a fairly-priced, good (not great) performance vehicle. It’s likely to be powered by a 2.0-liter engine (similar to the one used in the Jetta or inAudi’s A3), or a 2.0-liter turbo four (optional). The steering wheel will probably be the same, though: an automatic 7-speed automatic DSG with a manual mode. To shift the gears manually, the driver can use the two shifters mounted on the wheel, although the automatic shifting saves up on the fuel consumption.Speaking of the fuel consumption, according to Volkswagen, their very first sports car will go about 35-50 mpg, with CO2 emissions of only 113. It will go from 0 to 60 in 6.2 seconds, which is pretty good for the intended pricing.The 2013 Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster features a navigation system, electro-hydraulic power steering, a stop/start system for the engine, antilock 4-wheel disk brakes and a 4-wheel independent transmission. Volkswagen says that the BlueSport Roadster’s top will be the lightest in its class.It is possible that such a vehicle becomes available for purchase sometime this year, but Volkswagen hasn’t officially stated anything about a release date. The price will be between $23,000 and $26,000.

2012 Porsche Cayman S Black Edition

Following the recently announced 911 and Boxster S Black Editions, Porsche introduces a new, limited edition Cayman S arriving later this summer. The 2012 Cayman S Black Edition comes in solid black and features a monochrome treatment with a black body and black-painted 19-inch Boxster Spyder design wheels. Normally contrasting trim pieces from the Cayman S are also painted for a uniform look. The side air intake grilles are painted black, as are the twin exhaust tailpipes and the model designation on the rear deck lid. Limited to only 500 units, the Cayman S Black Edition will be tagged at a cool $67,500 USD. Additional specs follow below.The monochromatic theme continues to the interior where black is the only available color, with aluminum and stainless steel used as accents. The brushed stainless steel door-entry guards feature Black Edition lettering, and the standard SportDesign steering wheel features twin aluminum-look spokes with a rim of smooth-finish black leather.
